Smarties-Not So Smartie
When your in a 5th grade class with 6 and 7th graders around, you’re in for a lot. Not only that, you can get in so many fights with other 5th graders if you’re not careful. The last thing us kids need to worry about is huffing candy. There have been some kids at my school Drum Intermediate School in University Place Wa that are smashing up Smarties, Necco Wafers and other powdery candy and inhaling the contents then blowing it out so it looks like they are smoking. Not only is this “not cool” it’s actually stupid, there are kids all around the country that are doing this there are youtube videos on “how to” do it and kids are getting sick. Some kids are getting smokers cough-seriously, some are getting asthma like symptoms from doing this.
The scary thing is that the powder is getting into these kids’ lungs and clogging them up, it’s really dangerous, if you are a parent you should talk to your kids about NOT doing this and letting their friend’s know how “uncool” it is also. Written by 5th grader Devyn Keirstead

A five-year study, by the Iowa Youth and Family Project found that parents who smoke cigarettes, drink excessive amounts of alcohol, are inactive, have poor diets and get inadequate amounts of sleep generally influence their children to have similar lifestyles, compared to parents who don’t indulge in those behaviors.
What is it about living in Iowa that makes people so miserable? Maybe not a great place to raise your children.

One way to really help your kids succeed and out of the wrong circles is to stay involved in their lives both academically and socially.
