Smith Brother’s Farms’ Jeff D. Route 145 Leaves a Bad Taste In Mouths Of University Place
Jeff D. of Smith Brother’s Farms route 145 in University Place, Wa is the worst milk delivery man ever. He started out as our delivery man around April of 2009. He had come to our door and solicited us for delivery. I noticed our neighbor also had delivery and I thought it would be convenient, well boy was I wrong.
It all started out great, he gave my daughters some chocolate milk so they fell in love with him right away. I was very happy initially to be getting the milk delivered, it was convenient.
Until one day when it all went bad. We got a letter in the mail stating that we would no longer be able to order our products online which was one of the main reasons I signed up to begin with. They also mentioned that our delivery day would be changed from Friday to Wednesday. That was bad, then it got worse. I came home one Wednesday and the milk was not delivered. I called Jeff and had to leave a message.
Apparently, milkmen are like contractors for Smith Brother’s, they get to set their own prices and their own hours and days of operation. I found this out by speaking to Jeff at about 8:30PM that nite when he returned my call. He said that he knows the milk was delivered because he had a helper on the truck with him and the helper ran the milk to us while he delivered to the neighbor’s. I told him I had no milk, he challenged me by asking me if I was sure and then he continued to berate me by asking me to check in my fridge and tell him what the expiration dates on the milk in there was, as if I would have had some massive memory lapse and forgotten that I had put the milk in the fridge and then called the milkman to complain out of pure craziness. I advised him there was no milk in the fridge because he had not delivered any. He then asked me if I had ever had my milk box vandalized, I advised him that I had not. He then asked me to check in my front yard and look around, maybe some kids hid the milk from me. I was getting tired of this nonsense. I told him, I did not get any milk and I needed him to deliver some the next day. Jeff advised me he is only in University Place delivering Smith Brother’s Farms products on Wednesdays. I got very upset because this whole milk delivery thing was supposed to be convenient and it was turning out to be anything but.
I told Jeff that I would wait for the next delivery day but that I did not want to be charged for the “missing milk”. He told me that I should let him know if the milk “turns up”. I was very displeased with this interaction. I was then on the verge of cancellation.
A short while later the milk was not delivered again. I called Jeff and told his answering machine I wanted to quit the service, I would have told him but he never answers the phone. He did not call me back, or try to keep me as a client, I guess he had had just enough of me as I had had with him. At any rate a guy came and picked up the milk box. I asked him what my total balance was, he said he was only filling in so he did not know. I did have my bill handy so I wasn’t sure what I owed, I made the check for more than needed on accident. Come to find out when I looked at the statement I had made it out for $11.00 too much. I thought I would just see a check in the mail for the over payment but I guess Jeff thought this was his TIP! I never got any money back. I called and began leaving messages for Jeff again but this time no one called me back. I called the main office of Smith Brother’s and they said they would have someone call me but no one did. After a long time of waiting for nothing to happen, I decided to write this post. I spoke with them today and Brian the manager at Smith Brother’s Farms is supposedly going to talk to Jeff and get my money returned. It’s only $11.00, it’s not the money, it’s the principle. I guess getting milk delivered is a thing of the past and so is good customer service, shame on this Smith Brother’s University Place customer for thinking otherwise.

Home-delivery of dairy products is a service from another era, something we won’t see in the near future. Helping to put an end to such services are the convenience and cost savings of nearby grocery stores. Poor customer service will kill Smith Bros services and others like it. Good riddance to them.

It is a shame that Jeff provided such poor customer service. He obviously won’t last long in that business. Hopefully the milk company can get a better delivery man for that route. I am surprised that someone in a customer service role would interrogate a paying customer like that.

We got Smith Brutha’s milk back in the 60’s when we lived in N. Tacoma. They were pretty good. The milk came in glass bottles and I think sometimes we even got cheese. The milky man had a sort of pin striped uniform. Of course that was before President Nixon got in and screwed up the world.

Pretty soon we won’t have milk because PETA will get a law passed saying we’re being mean to the cows.
