Clear Brand Goes Wire-less
Re-branding their service to “Clear”, ClearWire loses the attachment to wires altogether. The mobile Internet service offers unlimited local telephone service for $25 per month [keep your same phone number] and a similar price for Internet. Claiming faster Internet connections than you would get from your cell phone company, and no real numbers to back it up, the advertising refers to the Clear terms of service for the real story.
The fine print will reveal the extra charges that jack the prices, the over-charges one would be surprised to find on their bill after agreeing to the advertised deal.
Like all Internet/telephone carriers, Clear has plenty of “hidden” charges for overages and expanded services. You’ll find out about all of that when the bill arrives.
It is Clear at this point, I will stay Wired with Comcast for phone and Internet service. It’s a good idea to shop around occasionally, but reading the fine print reveals that not all of the flashy advertising in the world makes up for the grief you would have when trying to back out of a contract with Clear.

I hate hidden fees and costs. If everyone would just tell me upfront what I need to pay, I’d be a lot happier. By the way everyone, don’t forget to cover your pipes it’s gonna be a cold one tonite.

I signed up for Clear’s “pay as you go” plan. Cost me $40 for the little boondogle thing that plugs into my laptop’s usb port, but the monthly fee when I signed up was about $20 a month (I don’t know what they’re charging now). It’s not the best, but nice to have for those times when you are somewhere in downtown Tacoma waiting for your crack dealer to show up and you just have to get on the internet.
