It was verrrry cold this evening as families gathered at City Hall in University Place for the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

There was food and coffee offered (for a price – I’m certain the money went to a good cause, like the Town Center project), music, and events at at nearby Homestead Park.

An evening among the people for Duke Stern would not be complete without incident. I arrived early to the 4:45 appearance by the Sunset Elementary 2nd grade choir, which included my granddaughter. I was standing front row. My daughter arrived a short time later, after a good-sized crowd had gathered. Recognizing me, she squeezed through. A woman behind me whined (I mean this was a classic “victim” whine) “Oh, now I won’t be able to get a picture at all”. Apparently, my daughter had moved into her viewpoint. So, my daughter kneeled and began taking video. The woman tapped me on the shoulder, “can I squeeze in and get one picture?” I stepped aside slightly, letting her snap a picture and then stepped back to my position, looked over my shoulder at the woman who had a tube up her nose and an oxygen tank on wheels in one hand. I said, “You’ll have to show up earlier for these things to get a good place.” She whined and mumbled something else. I felt like just turning the knob on the oxygen cannister to OFF.

It was colder than snot this evening. Some people at the event wore cut off shorts, others just sweaters. A pair of thermal underwear was not enough to keep me warm. I need to get some wool socks and some gloves.  Does that make me cold-blooded? No, turning off the oxygen tank… THAT would have been cold-blooded.
