Whatever happened to: KJR’s Kevin O’Brien?
Back in the 70s, KJR hired the son of a well-known radio programmer, maybe it was a favor they owed. The kid was Kevin O’Brien. Real last name: Metheny. He was obnoxious, full of himself and was a pain to listen to. In fact, I didn’t listen to Kevin O’Brien, choosing anything else on the radio rather than KJR during those hours. He was that bad! His attitude sucked and it oozed through the radio.
Now, this from Robert Feder, formerly of the Chicago Sun-Times, now reporting for Vocalo on the topic of the Chicago radio-TV scene:
Kevin “Pig Virus” Metheny, the man who tormented Howard Stern at WNBC-AM in New York 25 years ago, is working his special brand of magic now at Tribune Co.-owned news/talk WGN-AM (720). He’s not only alienated longtime listeners with his horrendous programming decisions, but he’s turned most of the staff against him with a barrage of insulting, threatening and nit-picking memos. “Truthfulness,” according to Metheny, is merely “optional.”
