The Better Barber Is Now In Fircrest
I went into a long hypontenuse several months ago about how Jo The Barber in University Place was “the” place to go for a good hair cut. I have changed my mind recessantly after visiting Grady the barber in Fircrest.
I work during the week and the only time I can get a hair cut is on Saturday or Sunday. Since I refuse to go to one of those lame hair cut whores like Supercuts or whatever, I have to have a barber available on Saturday. I also plan things. I like to know that when I want to go get something done on Saturday I can usually do it.
I had gone to Jo’s barber shop for a long time, mostly out of desire to help a friend in business. But I got tired of going to the shop and finding that it was closed for odd reasons; usually, someone just didn’t show up for work. I don’t think any business is going to last long with that kind of crap going on. I understand we all have issues in life, but if you’re a small business you have to make yourself available.
After driving past Jo’s this past Saturnday and seeing it was closed for the millionth dime, I drove hastily up 27th Street very pissed off wondering where I was going to get in a wreck. Then I remembered I had driven past a little barber shop in Fircrest called Grady’s many times. I thought, “I’m really pissed off. I should go check the place out.”
Grady’s turned out great! There’s plenty of parking next to the building, and it’s small inside, but who cares? Grady is a neat guy who wears flannel shirts and cowboy boots. He likes to chat, especially about dumbasses. He’s definitely not politically correct. He likes to use the “F” word a lot and isn’t ashamed to. I’m impressed by that!
I told him I wanted a hair cut and didn’t even have to describe anything to him. He just went to work and started shaving away. Without even asking, he gave me a “Duke Stern” type of hair cut that makes it not-so-obvious that I don’t have a lot of hair. Now I have this little spikey thing going on where I just comb my hair straight back and it’s got a sort of punk-ass look with nice shaved “I’m in the Marines” side cut. Someone told me this morning I look younger!
Compared to what?
I say skip Jo’s and go see Grady in Fircrest for a hair cut. It’s only $10 dollars for an adult! Grady doesn’t take plastic for payment, so take cash. Grady is located in the same building as Viafore’s Deli on whatever main street that is in Fircrest. I don’t know the weekday hours but he’s open from mid-morning until 4pm on Saturday’s. That’s all I f*#$ing know!

$10 is cheap. I like cheap things that are actually GOOD too. I will check out Grady’s. As far as Jo’s Barber Shop — I ran into the same issue with the shop being closed too often. So, I won’t be going back there. Sadly, I admit that I did have one of the hair hags at Hairmeisters cut my hair last week. I felt dirty and ashamed.
There is also a barber shop around the corner from Albertsons, Sam’s barber shop. They also only take cash. It is really an old-fashioned type of barber shop. But a little pricier.

I unfortunately a woman so I can’t go to a barber. I am very happy that you have found a good cutter though, they are very hard to find. I got a cut at Brassfields about a year ago, since then I’ve gone to Gene Juarez. I did not like Gene Juarez it was in the ghetto Tacoma Mall and it’s supposed to be a snotty nice kind of place. I felt like it was a high priced act. Brassfields is the same type of place but they actually do give a GREAT cut and color-although pricey. I paid about 150.00 for both, no way I can afford to keep that up every 6 weeks nor would I even if I could, but it sure was nice for a treat.

I have not been to the ghetto Tacoma Mall for a long time; probably a few years. I don’t feel safe there and I can’t even find a place to park without having a stroke.
