They Are All Weenies!
Final word on my quarrel with Albertsons and the Oscar Mayer company. Oscar Mayer totally dropped the ball. The company went nowhere with the complaint, there was no resolution. Do I stop buying Oscar Mayer products now? YES. But only when they are at full price. In the meantme, I will buy Hormel or Ballpark. When Oscar Mayer has some huge markdown on their product, then I will buy.
But, I have to say, I am very disappointed in the customer service at Albertsons and the response– or non-response from Oscar Mayer. I have found Fred Meyer prices lower overall and enjoy shopping at the 19th St [James Center] store. The Lakewood Fred Meyer seems dirty, crowded and unfriendly. The James Center store seems more laid back. Maybe I just happened to shop there at the right time.
Bottom line: customer service, poor customer service, drives away customers. Store management and employees need to realize, their job depends on customers. The James Center Quizno’s closed their doors last Saturday. We had patronized the shop a couple times and the experience was sometimes less than pleasant. It DOES make a difference!

A few years ago I talked with the guy who was the owner at the Quiznos. He said a large part of his problem was that because of the way his store was physically located in the shopping center (and the fact that he got virtually no signage outside) his traffic-and therefore his income was going way down. He had no money to advertise the place. I’m surprised he didn’t close down sooner. That shopping center is laid out so that any business that doesn’t face 19th street doesn’t get noticed.

What James Center needs is a make-over. They need to plan a new lay-out. They can do this after the last shop has shuttered it’s doors. That will be sometime late 2010.

Bad customer service does drive customers away, and I would say in the long run the company will more than likely go out of business, especially in the day and age of the Internet, where feedback and reviews of a company are a click away!
Till then,

I had forgotten about this until I re-read this post: James Center did get a “majorly” renovation and new layout (maybe 10 years ago?) when The Fred Meyer was not getting enough traffic. I think this had something to do with a majority of the street traffic going down Mildred and not so much down 19th Street at the time. I remember it quite well, there was quite an uproar over it because there were a number of small businesses that were forced out of business when the new layout was revealed. They had no choice-their businesses were torn down and not offered a second chance. The orignal layout had Fred Meyer facing 19th; most of the rest faced Mildred. I think the only businesses spared were Ivars and U.S. Bank. The main entrance to the shopping center was on Mildred. I am going insane; it could have been more than 10 years ago. So now Fred Meizer gets a lot of traffic and the little stores get none. Interestingly, that section of 19th Street is one of the most frequent scenes of car wrecks in the city.
