Now in the second day of a hostage taking situation by an area business, the situation has become tense. The ATM, being the backbone of BECU Credit Union, controls the ability of credit union members to conduct business, make deposits, withdraw cash. The ATM at the 40th & Bridgeport BECU Credit Union is still down, OUT OF OPERATION, after more than 24 hours.

There are no tellers at the credit union to take care of the customers. Customers who depend on this branch, the newest location of BECU, have to travel farther across town to transact business through the ATMs of BECU.

This is an inconvenience that will drive members to change from BECU to other banks, and stop new customers from signing up with this credit union. The response from the BECU personnel on location, “there is another ATM a few miles farther up the road at the Fred Meyer. SORRY!”  It IS a SORRY situation. Not a good reflection on BECU. Certainly not a good impression to make on a new member. The employees on site…are busy signing up new members all day. The situation just gets worse.

This response yesterday from the PR folks at BECU, in response to a customer contact memo I sent them:

Thank you for passing this on. We take all member feedback seriously
and I wanted to let you know that I am looking into this.

No communication from inside BECU corporate since then.  Things are getting tense. Area residents, members of BECU are being held hostage by a BROKEN system. We will keep you informed as this situation unfolds…
