Let’s Debunk Another Ridiculous Story Of Yore…

After years of reading and writing news stories for the airwaves and print, I’m just not sure how to start this oddity..
Ok, so have you ever heard of the Maury Island UFO incident? Heck, let’s dig into the story just for fun.
In the summer of 1947, a story hit the press about a couple of doughnut shaped UFO’s that bumped into each other over Maury Island (which is now attached to Vashon Island) in Puget Sound. As the story goes, the crash caused radioactive material to fall from the sky which struck a small boat in Puget Sound. A man and his son on the boat suffered injury and/or radiation sickness from the material and their dog died from the radiation. UFO fanatic Kenneth Arnold and scores of other people during the many years since have spun and re-spun the tale that the U.S. Government knew about the incident and was covering it up. You can find many sources to read the story; I’m not wasting blog space here for that. But why didn’t anyone else in Tacoma notice the incident (it would have been hard NOT to notice it) and why didn’t the story hit the newswires until August of that year, at least a month after it supposedly happened?
The deal is: I got the scoop years ago from a lady who worked in a high level position at Boeing after WWII. I recall her name was Catherine but I’m not sure if I’m spelling the name right. As of the late 1980′s, she lived near Lakebay, Washington. I believe she has since passed away.
After WWII Boeing was working on an advanced radar platform for aircraft, something similar to what we now refer to as the AWAC’s planes. During a flight, something went wrong-I’m not exactly sure what-and radioactive material DID fall into Puget Sound. The part about the man, his son and their dog is true.
When the Air Force found out, they went nuts, of course. They sent a group of officers to Tacoma to investigate the situation, gather any remains and fly out before anyone knew what was going on. Unfortunately, after leaving Tacoma with the evidence, their plane crashed in southwest Washington then the cat was out of the bag. The U.S. government now had TWO coverups to deal with. Fred Crisman, a Tacoman who had loose ties to the OSS in WWII was hired for his knack of creating contagion in the media. He created the entire story of the two UFO’s crashing over Maury Island and several other crazy trails for news hounds to follow-with the sole intention of getting anyone and everyone as far away from the truth as possible.
The story he created includes men in black, secret meetings, people who disappeared without a trace, disappearing evidence.. And the list goes on.
This is an exellent explanation as to why the story didn’t hit the press until at least a month after it “supposedly” happened. And if you’re old enough to remember the late 1940′s when the cold war was really hot, there was plenty of reason in people’s minds to keep things secret from those Soviet commies.
Part of the mystery in the whole story is that the man and his son who were on the boat disappeared off the face of the earth not too long after the story broke. This part is actually true, sort of. The man, Mr. Dahl, didn’t really disappear. He was just threatened with misery if he ever told anyone what really happened. I don’t doubt this; people who work on secret or what are also known as “black” projects at Boeing are reminded to never talk about what they have seen by getting the bejeesus scared out of them when they leave the company, even to this day. And Mr. Dahl’s son was found years later in a remote part of Idaho. He would not talk either, but one can only imagine what kind of threats he received to keep him quiet. You have to consider there’s good reason for making such threats. If they were allowed to go public-or be seen in public, they would also be ”visible” to unfriendly rival countries as witnesses who could be probed for information that few others would have.
After hearing what really happened, I find it interesting to see all the blather about “The Maury Island UFO coverup.” I’ve even seen it on TV documentaries.
Sorry, folks but I trust my source on this one. There never was a Maury Island UFO. Just a post-WWII science project gone bad. I can’t help but wonder: Is the Roswell incident a project gone bad too?
