EAS, the maker of Myoplex Nutrition Shakes, has doubled the price on it’s product, shaved off a few servings per box, and has not substantially increased the amount of important ingredients per serving. On top of this, the original formula is being discontinued and Deluxe will be your only option. Does this make sense to you? It does if you are EAS. Make more money off the consumer by giving them less and calling it Deluxe. Do we all remember the story of the Emperor’s New Clothes? A tailor convinced the Emp that the new suit sewn for him fit the Emp perfectly and was very beautiful. The Emp was pleased, his court, not wanting to incur the wrath of the Emp, agreed the clothes were beautiful and complimented the Emp’s appearance. The problem was, there were no clothes. The Emperor had been fooled, and was walking around in his underwear.

Well, I am speaking up. The Emporer has NO clothes!!! EAS is tailoring smaller boxes of Myoplex, with fewer servings and raising the price. Yes! But — It is DELUXE! Ahhhh!

Check the ingredients on the original product serving:

Calories: 270   Calories from Fat: 25  Total Fat: 3g   Saturated Fat: 1g
Cholesterol: 15mg     Sodium: 350mg   Potassium: 650mg
Total Carbohydrates: 23g      Dietary Fiber: 3g      Sugars: 3g    Protein: 42g

Now, none of the significant ingredients you look for in a nutritional shake have been substantially increased in the new DELUXE Myoplex, which is now about twice as much in cost:

Ingredient Amount % Daily Value**
Calories 330
Calories from fat 25
Total Fat 3g 5
Saturated Fat 2g 10
Cholesterol 35mg 12
Total Carbohydrate 28g 9
Dietary Fiber 7g 28
Sugars 14g
Protein 53g 106
Sodium 300 mg 13
Potassium 630mg 18
** Percent Daily Value is based on a 2000 calorie diet. Your daily values may be higher or lower depending on your calorie needs.
† Daily Value not established.

I noticed that DELUXE is higher in carbs, triple the amount of sugar, contains more calories, has less potassium, more than twice the cholesterol, more saturated fat and not a significant increase in the amount of protein. What is the upside? There is none. For serious gym rats that depend on Myoplex as a meal replacement powder in a weight loss program or for body building protein, or for anyone just looking for the most nutritional shake — this product change and price increase is certainly not good news. Stock up on the Original formula now. The University Place GNC has run out of it. I lucked out by getting a box at the Tacoma Mall GNC and got more than 50% off the 2nd box. It is also available online at substantial savings compared to store price.

Myoplex is the best tasting nutritional shake, and contains more protein per serving than any shake I have seen on the market. The price is very high though, and about to increase. The consumer is taking a beating again. What’s new?
