6th Avenue Nightlife – Something for Everyone
Took in the Ben Union show at Jazzbones Friday night. Union, a Gig Harbor resident, formed his band about a year ago and has been appearing at several Tacoma area venues. His music is along the lines of Jason Mraz and Coldplay. Although I can appreciate the music and enjoyed some of the songs, the band moved into some hard rock stuff that just got to be too loud for these 50-something ears.
Luckily, just down the street is Chopstix. There, you can enjoy the Dueling Pianos. The guys play for tips and from Neil Diamond to the Eagles, Robert Palmer and Garth Brooks, the dueling piano players know any song you can name. Plenty of bawdy humor and sing-alongs, lots of audience participation. Chopstix attracts the young and the older crowds.
A small cover charge at both Jazzbones or Chopstix is well worth it. There are also various restaurants in the District from seafood & steak to Italian & Indian.
