I enjoy going to the moives or popping a Red Box into the DVD player in hopes of escaping reality for about 90 minutes.  This is seemingly harder and harder to do.  I will have to begin watching trailers online first each and every time.  You know how sometimes the characters can really make a movie?

Well, for me they can really break a movie too.  I don’t understand why the producers keep shoving pop culture ideologies down our throats.  Let’s put it this way, I like to be able to relate to the characters in a positive way.  I am tired of seeing movie after movie where the race line is crossed, tossed and intermixed between couples.  It doesn’t make the movie any more enjoyable for me to see this dynamic.  Personally, I don’t care to see it in the streets much less on the big screen.  I guess I’m old fashioned.

If it was once in a while, no problem, but when it’s so frequent that it starts to make me wonder “why”? that’s when I’ve had enough.  Here are some examples of recent movies that have found the irresistable need to “intermingle” the races in relationship;

Mirrors (Keifer Sutherland, Paula Patton), Guess Who (Ashton Kutcher, Theresa Jones), Catwoman (Benjamin Bratt, Halle Berry), Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanomo Bay (John Cho, Paula Garces), Hancock (Will Smith, Charlize Theron), Star Trek (Zachary Quinto, Zow Saldana).

I guess Hollywood is just picking the best actors/actresses for the part right?  That’s what they’d have us to believe.  I think there is a deeper message there.  I think society and the media wants us all to be together and in love, to break down all the barriers that bind us, religion, sex, race, what’s next?  I think there’s some notion that if we all “get in bed” together we’ll stop all the fighting in the world or at least here at home.  To me it’s just unnatural, I know we are all people but some barriers just aren’t meant to be crossed, it’s just better in my opinion, of which I am entitled to-if some lines remain drawn in the sand.  This doesn’t mean we can’t all be friends but let’s not take it too far.  People don’t like my take on reality, so please, let the comments fly.
