Have You Heard About The Summer of Hell? Should We Care?
I find the oddest and sometimes the most thought provoking stuff just looking around on the internet. Sometimes it’s like a big library; sometimes it’s like a trash can.
While doing some research on economic predictions for 2009, I came across a lot of search results about “The Summer of Hell 2009.” I have now crossed the line in this post where I could come across like someone from The National Enquirer if I’m not careful.
Apparently there are some people who think the summer of 2009 will bring varying degrees of social, political and just general chaos to the U.S. and Britain. There seems to be two camps here and the line between the two is a bit blurred at times. One camp is the aluminum foil hat wearing psychic Ouija board users who think this all revolves around the end of the world as we know it in 2012 because of the cosmic calendar coming to an end or… Whatever.
Then there’s some fairly level headed people who (as far as I can tell) have done some cursory research and determined that crime and general mayhem does increase during times of economic trouble. I have some links here; you read. This is a blog, not my 400 page book:
and then read this:
You can read a lot of stuff like this and then start to see shadows around every corner and UFO’s in your closet if you’re not careful. But it is intriguing, at least to me. Is it me, or has there been an unusual amount of crime and general weird stuff in the last year? If I wasn’t insane, I’d guess that people have been driving “unusually” bad recently especially on S. 19th Street in University Place. A lot of people seem to be generally grumpier. There’s been a lot of shootings in Chicago (more than usual, or not?). People get shot at Walmart. Bank robberies. Seems like people, especially in lower income/social brackets, are getting really tense.
On a more sensible note, I have noticed that there is a prediction of a greater than normal danger of wildfires for most of the western U.S. this year, and apparently the danger in northern California is predicted to be at the highest risk level ever. I did read a comment from a “wildfire prediction type of person” that in northern California 2009 could be a “summer from hell.”
So now I will admit I could be full of crap and am spending too much time on the internet. But am I the only one who’s sensing things just aren’t right this summer? Maybe I just need to clean the UFO’s out of my closet.
I’m going to get in my vehicle and forage for dinner now. If I don’t come back in a reasonable amount of time you should probably pull down your window blinds, and put on your aluminum foil psychic hat and wait for instructions from the gnomes who live under Mt. Rainier.
And that’s what the deal is!
