Must-See TV?
Now that television has ditched analog for digital-only broadcasts, I decided to take a look at what fine entertainment can be found in a random scan of channels, on an average Saturday afternoon.
Discovery Channel had Man VS. Wild. In the thick, green, humid, Panamanian rain forest, a man eats a bug, rubs sap on a scratch on his hand, drinks “fresh” water from inside a tree branch. After the commercial, we would see him set up camp for the night, snack on ants and start a campfire.
I didn’t wait, moving on to KONG, where they were showing a half-hour infomercial on the Sonic Crafter from Rockwell. This multi-use power tool uses a microsonic oscillating action and is 4 tools in 1. Cut, saw, scrape, and sand. The Sonic Crafter works on wood, metal, plastic, fiberglass, masonry, and ceramic tile. It easily cuts through a pipe, but won’t damage a red balloon, you have to see this demonstration to believe it! 5 minutes was enough to convince me that every home owner should have one of these. Check them out online, have your credit card handy.
On KBTC Don & Bill were using a table saw to make a straight edge on a board. I wanted to hang out there but thought I might be missing something farther up the digital dial.
ShopNBC had an Arendal Floor Clock they were selling for $1,900.00 and the ladies hosting couldn’t agree whether they should refer to this inanimate object as a he or she. They decided on calling this clock “he”. Everyone that comes into your home would feel it’s presence, they told us. They giggled like school girls when the clock struck 12, and whispered as the 12 tones rang out. I wished I had a glass of wine to toast this wonderful moment of television.
FSN had the Best Damn 50 Sports Bloopers 2. AFV for sports fans. The first segment of 5 bloopers left a lot to be desired. But the second segment, the Fan bloopers montage, proves that sporting events should not have live spectators, but should only be televised. Fans do idiotic things and should stay home. The second segment also included many shots of ball on balls action, catchers being hit in the nuts by a pitch etc. It got better as the countdown neared the Top 10. I ended up switching between this and TruTV for The World’s Wildest Police Videos.
With 500 channels on your TV, there is always plenty to watch. Great TV entertainment, such as descibed here, is as close as your remote control.
