…And remind everyone how absolutely lousy Seattle-Tacoma radio entertainment is. I just got back from attending one of my son’s wedding in Albuquerque last weekend. I had a cool radio in the hotel room. It was a Hyatt, after all. After listening to the stations there, I almost didn’t want to come back. Now, dig this: Along with the plethera (did I spell that right?) of hispanic and country stations, they have two oldies stations playing 60′s and 70′s stuff. Not one… TWO. And they didn’t play the same songs every hour! They have two (yes-TWO!) classic rock stations playing album rock hits from the 70′s and early 80′s. The DJ’s are entertaining and funny. The station promo’s are funny. I found only one hip-hop-bee-bop-bing-bang-boogie station. There was a alternative rock station or two but that’s expected these days. My point is, they had MUSIC on FM and a variety of it-like it’s meant to be.

Now compare this to the Seattle market. I’m being a bit cynical but not by that much. Seattle’s FM stations are going more and more to talk format. Seattle’s AM stations have been talk format since I started shaving years ago. The only music on Seattle FM is dentist office music, Celine Dion and Fleetwood Mac (same difference). KZOK, Seattle’s album rock station is even getting lame. I swear on a stack of 8-tracks, Seattle radio can’t hold a candle to the radio offerings in Albuquerque-a city not much bigger than Spokane. There’s even a great oldies station an hour away from Albuquerque in Grants, New Mexico which has a population of 8,000. They play stuff from the 50′s through the 80′s and that tiny station is better than Seattle-Tacoma’s KBSG ever was.

I say we all bail and move to New Mexico. They have great pizza there too.
