One of the most dangerous attack on a law enforcement officer is an edged weapon (knife attack) attack.  Considered dangerous due to the close proximity of attack and the injuries that can be produce, which can be deadly.

To defend against a knife attack, law enforcement officers apply the “21 foot rule”.  This principle was developed by a Salt Lake City Police Officer Dennis Tueller.  This knife defense principle is also called “Tueller Drill”.

Basically the “Tueller Drill” is all about reaction time. Testing shows it takes approximately 21 feet for a law enforcement to take their sidearm out and shoot 2 rounds into the chest of the aggressor who initiates an attack at running speed.

This may sound easy in a control environment like the gym or a dojo.  Try doing this under real adverse conditions like low lighting, wet pavement, and stress.

Knowing this type of training, you can implement this into your personal defense to better prepare yourself and to protect you and your loved ones.
