Should We Be Worried About Rotten Egg Drywall In Our Homes?
Just came off the press from CNN (summary-link follows): People in numerous states in the U.S. are becoming physically ill from Chinese-manufactured drywall installed in their homes. This is serious business. People are sick to the point that they can’t stay in their homes. Some of these homes are in Washington State. Your home? I hope not.
No one seems to know what’s in the Chinese drywall product that’s making people sick and homes uninhabitable. Ring Ring! Hello, China? Customer service department, please?
I’m not racist, I’m really not. But how many times in the last few years have we had tainted products from China that either makes people sick; makes them lose their hair, or grow a third ear? No one seems to know most of the time why we’re growing a third ear and I never hear much of an apology from “a person on high” in China.
I’ve heard people say it’s some sort of organized terror attack against the U.S. Uh, no.
More than likely, it’s China’s attempt to become the big industrial power they want to be but the problem is they’ve been trying to go from cooking over an open fire to cooking with spent nuclear fuel rods in the time span of a couple decades. Can you blame them? Do some history research and recall all the health and sickness that we American’s brought on our own people during our own “industrial revolution.” We polluted and poisioned the “&^%$” out of ourselves just for the sake of wanting to become the king of steel manufacturing. And hey.. Can you say ASARCO? Like in the Tacoma smelter?
I guess the only difference is during our industrial revolution we didn’t send a bunch of tainted toys, food and home building products to China, which is a difference worth pointing out.
So is it China’s fault? Maybe, to a point. More likely, it’s our country’s fault for becoming too reliant on low cost imports (or what my father would have called ‘cheap crap’). He grew up in the depression years and he always said “If you want something done right, do it or make it yourself.” I agree. Let’s get back to making our own toys and drywall again. And don’t tell me we don’t have the industrial machine to get it done. We have plenty of jobless people who would love to pitch in.
