Corporations have joined hobbyists on the Internet to stream their local on-air sound to the world. Where hobbyists could make little if any income from their “stations”, the major players stand a better chance of transitioning the radio stations from terrestrial broadcasting to webcasting and profit from it.

It’s still an even playing field for listeners. Shon White operated a low-power FM station, KQCX in Queen Creek, AZ. and also streamed the audio on the Internet. Cool radio stations like KQCX are just as accessible as commercial stations, like WABC/New York.

Don’t like commercials? You  have thousands of stations that will never run a commercial. Hours of listeneing pleasure, and your music choices are practically unlimited. There is something for everyone on Internet radio.

Feeling homesick? Just about all radio stations are streaming online. Your favorite radio station in your hometown is probably available, as are channels from foreign countries.

Satellite radio is an option, but there are monthly sunscription fees and equipment costs. Internet radio is FREE. And FREE is better. Depending on your connection, you will have CD quality sound from your Internet radio stations and they are now available at home, at work, and in your newer automobiles.

Wireless gadgets such as cell phones allow access to all Internet radio stations. If you carry a laptop and are in a major city, you have wireless access. In other words, Internet radio provides more choices for the listener and is available – everywhere!

HD radio seems like corporate radio attempting to grab the last piece of the broadcast spectrum, before their ship sinks or they make Internet radio payoff. Like satellite radio, HD has equipment costs and does not appear to be compatible with all of the wireless products which provide Internet connection.

A google search for Internet radio, will show services such as Live365, LoudCity or Shoutcast and these provide menus of thousands of stations.
