If you saw the movie with Helen Hunt, Kevin Spacey and Haley Joel Osment, then you know of the premise, “one good deed deserves another”. Otherwise, something similar would be “do unto others, as you would have them do unto you”. It was, and is a wonderful idea, that may work, if the “chain” is not broken.

A play on this idea is the subject of an email forwarded to me by a female acquaintance in Alaska. I ended up in her list of “people I bombard with email forwards”. Here is the idea, Pay It Forward, in a simple form:

It was in a town in Pennsylavania, at a Starbucks.The customer was inline at the drive-thru and told the clerk they would pay for the coffee in the car behind them, they didn’t even know them.So when that car pulled up and was told their coffee was paid for, they couldn’t believe it. The driver said it made him feel so good, as people cared, to show such an act of kindness……..This was weeks ago, but it is still going on on this town.That guy bought the next cars drinks and it just kept happening, and then it moved all over town to every drive up window, and the one thing the guy said that really stuck out, in this nation today, how much that helps. He wished it would grow and start happening everywhere, so I thought I would pass this on to everyone I know………..and believe me the next time I’m in the drive thru line for coffee the person behind me will get one on me………….Just a thought I’d give ya…………………

I detest email forwards, but this one relates to the very thing that happened recently when my daughter Stephanie and I drove through a University Place Starbucks. Quite a coincidence, or maybe the person that paid for our drinks had recently received this same email.

It’s a cool idea! And I hope we are behind that guy next time we drive through Starbucks again.
